SANFORD, Fla. – A look at former Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee's email inbox shows he received blistering emails for not immediately arresting George Zimmerman for shooting Trayvon Martin.
The Associated Press used a public records request to obtain five different days of emails from March this year as attention to the Martin case ramped up.
Martin's Feb. 26 death in the Orlando suburb first drew national attention on March 8, the day his relatives held their first news conference.
The police chief received many curse-filled emails criticizing him and his department. He also got interview requests from as far away as Al Jazeera and praise from fellow law enforcement officers.
In one email to a supporter, the chief wrote: "The truth will come out later."
