A Missouri man didn't really booby-trap his pickup truck with explosives, but he pretended to, so he could face charges.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the man had what appeared to be a grenade hanging from the rear view mirror of his Ford Ranger, and a fake stick of dynamite rigged to the cigarette lighter -- all to ensure the truck wasn't stolen.
But the fake explosives alarmed neighbors and caused the evacuation of an apartment complex in Wright City on Saturday. It also prompted a response from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the FBI and other agencies.
The suspect told the newspaper he believes medication for depression and other illnesses caused him to over-react to comments neighbors had made about borrowing his truck.
