PARKER COUNTY, Texas – Five family members were arrested after authorities found a 1-year-old and 58 dogs living in filthy conditions inside a Texas home, MyFoxDFW reports.
Authorities say 48-year-old Teresa Weldon allegedly got as many as 200 dogs over the course of two years from local shelters by claiming to run an animal rescue operation.
However, the shelters began to suspect the dogs were being mistreated under Weldon's care, and authorities began to investigate.
When authorities raided Weldon's home, they found 58 dogs living in filthy conditions. MyFoxDFW reports the property was covered with dog feces and filth.
31 of the dogs were living in stacked crates without adequate food or water, while another 27 ran loose outside. Weldon's 1-year-old grandson was also found in a crib in the home.
According to MyFoxDFW, the sheriff's office said two of the dogs had to be euthanized and another five puppies died shortly after the raid.
Weldon was arrested along with her husband Harry Weldon, son Joseph Weldon and their two other children. All five face charges of child endangerment and animal cruelty.
