Authorities are investigating a disturbing video that appears to show a Massachusetts high school student attacking his classmate, after the clip surfaced online Thursday.

Fox affiliate WFXT-TV obtained a copy of the video, which school officials said was taped inside Franklin High School on Thursday. In the video, a male student is seen "sucker punching" an unsuspecting student as he walks down the hallway, knocking him to the ground. It is not clear who shot the video.

The injured student was transported to Milford Hospital, the station reported, and his condition is unknown.

Superintendent Maureen Sabolinski responded to the incident in a press release Thursday, saying, "This cowardly act is disturbing and it does not reflect the expectations we espouse as a school district or as a community.

"We are committed to ensuring all of our students are safe while they are in school," Sabolinski said.

Sabolinski added that the school district will continue to assist the Franklin Police Department with their investigation. Her office also said the school will conduct its own probe once the police conclude their investigation.
