Bo Jackson hopes to raise $1 million for tornado relief and increase awareness of lingering damage across Alabama with a five-day, 300-mile bike ride through the state.

The Heisman Trophy winner and retired two-sport star discussed his "Bo Bikes Bama" ride during a news conference Monday in Birmingham. It begins Tuesday in the northeast Alabama town of Henagar.

The Bessemer native says he was on the West Coast when the twisters hit last April 27. After finding out his relatives were OK, he started thinking about ways to help.

Riders can join Jackson for $200 a day. Each of the five bikes he's riding will be auctioned.

The ride ends Saturday in Tuscaloosa. The former Auburn football and baseball player says anyone can join as he rides into the city.
