Nebraska may require the Pledge of Allegiance be recited in all public schools

The Nebraska Board of Education may soon require the Pledge of Allegiance be recited in all public schools, KETV reports.

The pledge is part of the daily routine in many of the state’s elementary schools, but often ends when students enter high school, according to the station.

The board would require all grades to recite the pledge every day. "It's a small act of valor on our students' part to participate in the freedoms that they are given," Jim Sheer, president of the Nebraska Board of Education, told the station.

The proposal is similar to a bill that stalled in the state legislature this year. If students would rather not say the pledge, they could quietly stand or sit as it's recited.
