ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The drunken driving trial for two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser has been pushed back in order to give the defense more time.
The Albuquerque Journal (http://bit.ly/yaK5LH ) reports the judge handling the case has postponed the trial until April 12. Judge Sharon Walton says there are motions that need to be addressed and issues were raised with respect to belt tapes used by officers. Walton said she was told by attorneys that it might be beneficial for her to listen to the belt tapes prior to trial.
Bernalillo County authorities arrested Unser in September after deputies said he was going more than 100 mph while racing another driver.
Authorities said his blood-alcohol content was twice the legal limit.
Unser, known in racing circles as "Little Al," previously pleaded no contest to a drunken driving charge in 2007 in Las Vegas.
