A champion arm wrestler has been ordered held without bail after pleading not guilty to manslaughter and other charges in connection with the death of his wife, who authorities say jumped out a second-floor window in an attempt to flee from him.
Allen Stilkey, 40, was arraigned Monday in Uxbridge District Court in Massachusetts. He was arrested and charged with manslaughter, assault and battery and threat to commit a crime just before 8 p.m. on Friday, Fox affiliate WFXT-TV reported.
Prosecutors say Stilkey and his wife, Lisa, were involved in a heated argument late Thursday night.
Authorities say Lisa Stilkey threw a pillow out a second-floor window of their Douglas home before jumping out herself in an attempt to flee from her husband.
She suffered severe injuries and was taken to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, where she was pronounced dead early Friday.
After Stilkey's arraignment on Monday, District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. called his wife's death "a tragic case of domestic violence," the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported.
Assistant District Attorney Brett Dillon said in court that broken furniture and wine bottles were found in the couple's home following the alleged fight, according to the newspaper.
Lisa Stilkey had reportedly been on the phone with her son before jumping out the window. State police investigators told the newspaper that the son said Alan Stilkey could be heard in the background, yelling, "When you get off the phone, I’m going to kill you."
Lisa Stilkey then told her son, "If I’m dead, he did it," the newspaper reported.
Stilkey was held over the weekend on $500,000 bail. His lawyer said Monday his client was not responsible for his wife's death.
Stilkey was the International Arm Wrestling Federation Arm Wrestler of 1995 among left-handed wrestlers in the 199-220 pound weight division, according to the newspaper.
