Victim's kin in NY pharmacy killing announce suit

The family of one of four people killed during a New York pharmacy holdup says it's filing a lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies that make oxycodone and the doctor who allegedly prescribed painkillers to the convicted murderer.

The attorney for the family of Jamie Taccetta says the suit also names the Suffolk County police department and the Long Island pharmacy owner.

Attorney John Ray scheduled a news conference Thursday to announce the suit.

David Laffer was sentenced to life in prison without parole in the June holdup at the Haven Drugs in Medford. His wife, who drove the getaway car, got 25 years.

Laffer says he committed the robbery because he'd lost his job and his wife needed painkillers. He jammed his backpack full of pills after killing the four.
