DENVER – The FBI has arrested a refugee from Uzbekistan at Chicago's O'Hare airport on terrorism charges after he was accused of planning to travel overseas to fight on behalf of a terrorist group.
The agency says 35-year-old Jamshid Muhtorov, of Aurora, Colo., also goes by several other names. He was arrested Saturday by members of the FBI's Denver and Chicago Joint Terrorism Task Forces.
The FBI says Muhtorov was indicted on a charge of providing and attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization. The group named is the Islamic Jihad Union.
The Department of Justice says Muhtorov made his initial appearance Monday in federal court in Chicago.
