ATLANTA – The owner of an Atlanta Jewish publication is resigning after he wrote a column suggesting that Israel would consider a "hit" on President Barack Obama.
Andrew Adler said Monday he is relinquishing his day-to-day duties at the Atlanta Jewish Times following a Jan. 13 column where he said Obama's assassination could be one of Israel's options in preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons.
Adler was roundly condemned by national and local Jewish groups. The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta added its voice to the calls on Monday, saying Adler had done "irreparable" damage to the community.
U.S. Secret Service spokesman Max Milien said the agency is "taking all appropriate follow-up measures."
The U.S. Attorney's Office declined comment Monday on whether it was launching an investigation.
