Officials Investigate String of Possible Arsons in NYC

A string of arson attacks in New York late Sunday appeared to be targeted at Muslims.

The four attacks all took place within 1.75 miles of one another in Queens, with three of the firebombings featuring Molotov cocktails made using Starbucks bottles, The New York Times reported.

The spree -- in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens near John F. Kennedy Airport -- began about 8:00 p.m. at a convenience store.

A house was targeted 10 minutes later, followed by an Islamic center at about 8:40pm and, finally, another house.

No one was injured, but the first of the two homes caught fire, with 60 firefighters taking 40 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

The Islamic center that was targeted on the Van Wyck Expressway -- a prominent Shiite mosque -- is home to the Imam Al Khoei Foundation. Its door was damaged by the attack, but the building was not set alight.

The Foundation has branches in cities including Islamabad, Pakistan.
