Number of Victims in Penn State Abuse Case Doubles

The number of victims in the Penn State sex-abuse scandal involving former football coach Jerry Sandusky now stands close to 20, reports MyFoxPhilly.com.

There were eight victims named in the grand jury presentment and 40 charges leveled against Sandusky. The former defensive coordinator reportedly met the young boys through The Second Mile, a charity he founded in the late 1970s.

Sources now tell the station that since state officials publicized two phone numbers for victims to call and held a press conference Monday, the number of victims has more than doubled.

Pennsylvania state officials said the Sandusky case is an on-going investigation and more charges could be coming. Head coach Joe Paterno was not named in the grand jury finding as violating any laws.

Sandusky was arrested and later posted bail, while two Penn State administrators face charges related to how an alleged crime was reported in the case to police and investigators.
