OAKLAND, Calif. -- Protesters who have demonstrated against the Bay Area Rapid Transit system since a 2009 killing by an agency police officer have canceled plans to "occupy" two Oakland stations.
The San Francisco Chronicle says No Justice No BART group organizers say they were concerned the Wednesday's planned actions at the 12th Street and 19th Street stations might prevent people from using BART to participate in Bay Area marches by Occupy Oakland protesters.
The group No Justice No BART has been demonstrating against the transit agency since the New Year's Day 2009 killing of Oscar Grant by BART police Officer Johannes Mehserle during an attempted arrest at an Oakland station.
A jury convicted Mehserle of involuntary manslaughter.
