A couple is being treated for injuries from a bear that attacked them after it followed the family dog into their central Pennsylvania home.

Leeann Moyer said Monday that her son and daughter-in-law, Rich and Angie Moyer, were recovering at Harrisburg Hospital after the attack at their rural home near Newport.

She says her son let the dog outside as he got ready for work at around 3 a.m., then heard barking and called the dog inside.

Her son was attacked first, and then the bear turned on his wife after she came downstairs to help.

She says her son has a back injury, and his wife was hurt in the leg.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission says the bear may have been protecting cubs. They're looking for the bear.
