DEVELOPING: A sheriff's SWAT team has surrounded a check-cashing store in South Florida where one person was shot and a female employee is believed to be still inside.
Broward County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright says authorities initially thought the woman was being held hostage Tuesday. But that may no longer be the case.
Deputies are waiting until they are certain it is safe before storming the building in unincorporated Broward County near Fort Lauderdale.
The incident was reported as a robbery around 9:30 a.m.
It's unclear whether the wounded person was a victim or a suspect. The person's condition wasn't known.
Coleman-Wright says she's heard of no connection between the shooting and the fugitive siblings on the run from the law following a series of crimes in Florida and Georgia.
