GARDEN GROVE, Calif. – The Crystal Cathedral megachurch has restored the voting rights of its founder, the Rev. Robert H. Schuller, on the church's governing board.
Spokesman John Charles said Wednesday that the church, which produces the televangelist show the "Hour of Power," has restored Schuller as a voting member after removing that right earlier this month. The ministry also announced the addition of five members to the board.
The Orange County-based church has been plagued by financial troubles after a disastrous leadership transition and a devastating slump in donations.
It declared bankruptcy last fall and filed a plan to sell its campus and glass-spired sanctuary as it faced $47 million in debt.
Schuller, a pioneering televangelist, started preaching at a drive-in movie theater in Southern California in the mid-1950s and later built the cathedral.
