ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A lawyer and friend of Jack Kevorkian says the assisted suicide advocate is too weak to leave a Detroit-area hospital where he's being treated for pneumonia and kidney problems.
Mayer Morganroth said Wednesday that the 84-year-old Kevorkian sits up occasionally in his room at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak but is very tired and weak and could be released in a "few days or so."
Morganroth says the retired pathologist has been in the hospital for about 10 days and spent four days in the hospital during an earlier visit.
Kevorkian was released from a Michigan prison in 2007 after serving eight years for second-degree murder. He claims to have assisted in at least 130 suicides.
