An experienced bull rider from New Castle, Del., died after he fell during a rodeo event Sunday night, MyFoxPhilly.com reports.

Police say Leonel Trejo, 40, had been riding in the rodeo and after about a minute was thrown to the ground and trampled by the bull.

State police said Trejo was not wearing protective chest equipment, which is not required during Mexican bull riding events.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Trejo to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death, and state police said they are still investigating.
