Three people were killed after a shooting inside a San Jose State University parking garage Tuesday night, including the suspected gunman.

University police and city police officers responding to a report of a shooting in the parking structure found three people, including the shooter, campus police spokesman Sgt. John Laws said.

"I don't think we've had anything like this before," Laws told the San Jose Mercury News.

SJSU spokesperson Pat Harris told KTVU that the incident was isolated in that it only involved the three individuals and that the campus was safe. She also said that authorities believed it was not a random shooting or drive-by incident.

San Jose State police refused to release many details of the incident but said investigators did not believe the shooting was random.

Police had yet to determine if the victims were university students.

Hundreds of people gathered at the crime scene as police began investigations. The shooting occurred on the fifth floor of the campus' main garage, a six-floor structure that also houses the university's student services center, according to The Mercury.

"I'm just surprised it happened here. I never thought it would happen at this school," senior Josh Tullo said.

The incident was the second triple-shooting in San Jose in four days. A shooting at a party Saturday also left two people dead and one injured.
