JACKSON, Miss. – Authorities say at least three suspected tornadoes touched down in a Mississippi town, leaving extensive damage and at least one person with life-threatening injuries.
Steve Wilkinson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson, says suspected tornadoes hit Kemper, Hinds and Attala counties. The storms uprooted trees, toppled power lines and left streets cluttered with debris.
Jim Pollard with American Medical Response says one woman in Clinton, about 10 miles from Jackson, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. In Attala County, one person was in critical but stable condition at a hospital.
Heavy rain and hail were reported elsewhere in the state as the spring storm system pushed east.
