Four Virginia students were suspended from a middle school for passing around a plastic bag of oregano that officials say resembled marijuana.
Adam Grass -- one of the students -- was suspended for 10 days for possessing an “imitation controlled substance,” which is against school policy. He was also recommended for expulsion, according to his father, Patrick.
Patrick Grass told PilotOnline that officials at the Hickory Middle School in Chesapeake noticed the boys passing around the bag of herb during a lunch break.
The school has offered to meet with the father to discuss the terms of his son’s suspension and whether or not it can be removed from his record.
A district spokesman said there is a lengthy appeals process before its school board can vote on a student’s expulsion.
