CASTLE ROCK, Colo. --A Colorado man shot his pregnant wife then barricaded himself inside his home, forcing a neighborhood evacuation, FOX 31 Denver reported.
Police are attempting to contact the man after Saturday morning's shooting, but he remains in the house. Authorities say the wounded woman drove from the home with her 3-year-old son and the family dog after she was shot. She is reportedly in stable condition.
A city spokeswoman says a SWAT team has deployed tear gas a couple of times but that hasn't been enough to resolve the standoff. She says the suspect "shot out his windows" so "there was enough ventilation that the tear gas wasn't effective." She says authorities would now use what she describes as "other techniques."
"I just heard gunshots," said Dina Messe, a neighbor in Castle Rock, which is about 25 miles south of Denver, told FOX 31. "At that point I thought there was shooter in the neighborhood took the kids and hid in the closet. I didn't know if gunshots were flying everywhere.”
