NEW YOR -- A trove of John F. Kennedy pictures by White House photographer Cecil Stoughton is being offered at a New York City auction. It includes a rare image of Marilyn Monroe with the president and Robert Kennedy at a Democratic fundraiser.
The collection is being offered by Stoughton's estate at Bonhams auction house Thursday. It includes 12,000 photographs, and is conservatively estimated to bring $200,000.
The Monroe image is contained in an envelope labeled "Sensitive Material -- May 19, 1962." Its presale estimate is $4,000 to $6,000.
Stoughton was the first official White House photographer. One of his most famous images shows Lyndon B. Johnson being sworn in following Kennedy's assassination.
