U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan is preparing to meet with the publishing executive who is poised to take over the city's public school system.
Duncan said he would meet with Cathie Black later Thursday and he hopes to support her in any way he can.
The chairwoman of Hearst Magazines will take over for outgoing Chancellor Joel Klein next month.
Duncan spoke to reporters after joining Mayor Michael Bloomberg for an announcement of a plan to improve GED preparation courses.
Duncan says he's a "huge fan" of Klein and that Black deserves credit for taking on such a tough job.
Duncan was head of Chicago's public school system before President Barack Obama chose him for a Cabinet post.
