Ohio jury finds teen guilty in alpaca slaying case

An Ohio teenager who had already pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty has been found guilty on four felony counts related to the theft and fatal beating of a baby alpaca, a llama-like animal valued for its soft fleece.

The Hamilton JournalNews reports a Butler County jury on Wednesday found Marcus Miller guilty of breaking and entering, tampering with evidence, vandalism and grand theft. The Middletown area teen pleaded guilty Tuesday to the misdemeanor animal cruelty count before the trial's opening statements.

Co-defendant Nicholas Reynolds pleaded guilty to the charges in September. He was sentenced to eight months in prison on the felonies and 90 days in jail on the misdemeanor.

The 3-month-old alpaca was named Masterpiece and was worth $8,000. It was taken from a southwest Ohio farm in January.
