Family of Pace Football Player Killed by Police Calls on Obama Administration to Investigate

The father of a Pace University football star shot and killed by police is calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to conduct its own investigation, saying the probe launched by state and local police is flawed.

"We have to make sure we get the truth," Danroy Henry Sr. of Easton, Mass., said in an interview with MyFoxBoston.com

A lawyer for the Henry family fired off a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday, saying it has "become painfully clear that the investigation is fatally flawed and that an independent investigation is required to insure that the truth about what happened is determined and revealed."

Danroy Henry Jr., who played wide receiver and defensive back for the Pace University football team, was shot and killed by police more than a week ago outside Finnegan's Grill in Thornwood, N.Y.

Police were reportedly called to the bar at around 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 17 after an unruly crowd had gathered outside.

Police said that when they knocked on the window of Henry's vehicle, which was parked in a fire lane, the 20-year-old student accelerated, striking a police officer. Henry struck a second officer who tried to stop it, police have alleged.

Both officers then reportedly fired at the car, killing Henry and wounding a passenger.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department and New York State police have since investigated the incident, interviewing numerous witnesses who provided more than one version of the deadly confrontation

The family's letter to Holder comes after reports that confidential blood alcohol tests conducted on Henry were leaked to the media.
