The widow of the Arizona rancher whose death became a flashpoint in the state's immigration debate was airlifted to a hospital after authorities say she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street.
Sue Krentz was helping an older friend across the street Saturday night after attending a church service in Douglas, when both were struck by a vehicle, Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever said.
Krentz was airlifted to University Medical Center in Tucson. Her condition and the name and condition of her friend were not released, the Sierra Vista Herald reported.
Dever said the vehicle's driver, 66-year-old Ramon Parra Saucedo of Douglas, was arrested and booked into the county jail. Saucedo was being held on suspicion of DUI, two counts of endangerment and two counts of aggravated assault.
Saucedo is a U.S. citizen, KTVK-TV reported.
Anti-immigrant anger swelled after Krentz's husband, rancher Rob Krentz, was found dead in March on the couple's land in southeastern Arizona. Authorities believe he was fatally shot by an illegal immigrant possibly connected to a drug smuggling cartel.
