A New York nurse and her father were reunited after 41 years when the woman discovered that he was her terminal cancer patient, the New York Post reports.
Wanda Rodriguez was reportedly talking about the newly-admitted cancer patient with a doctor at Calvary Hospital in Bronx., N.Y., when she heard that the patient's name was Victor Peraza.
"The minute I heard that I froze. I said to myself ‘Oh, my God!'" Rodriguez told the Post. She said that name belonged to her father, who left her mother when she was just a few months old.
Rodriguez said she entered the patient's room on Aug. 25 and immediately noticed the resemblance between the two, according to the newspaper. She then confirmed her suspicion when the man told her he had two daughters -- one named Wanda.
Since then Rodriguez and her father have tried to catch up as much as possible, the newspaper reports. Rodriguez told Peraza that he has five grandchildren, introduced him to her three children and brought her sister and mother to visit him.
Rodriguez told the Post that she hopes Peraza lives to see his 61st birthday -- a week from Sunday -- but said they are both ready for whatever happens.
"He's at peace. He's had closure," she said. "He said, ‘Wanda, I've met you. I'm OK. I'm ready to die.'"
