BENSALEM, Pa.-- A New Jersey man is facing charges for allegedly leaving his 12-year-old grandson in a car while he gambled at a Pennsylvania casino.
Sixty-year-old Alexander Salter Jr., of Trenton, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child on Thursday, just a few hours after local lawmakers announced plans to crackdown just such behavior at Pennsylvania's casinos.
Police in Bensalem say Salter left the boy in an SUV for about a half-hour while he gambled at the Parx Casino. Investigators say the car's windows were down, but the boy had no water or keys.
A few hours earlier state lawmakers announced legislation that would make such cases third-degree felonies. Police say this is the seventh time it's happened at the Parx casino.
Salter was released on bail. He declined to speak to reporters after his arraignment.
