HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A panel studying a deadly Connecticut power plant explosion wants regulators to consider tighter rules on a common industrial procedure known as a gas blow.

The explosion occurred Feb. 7 at the Kleen Energy Systems Plant in Middletown during a gas blow. That involves high-pressure gas being blown through the pipes to clean them.

Six workers died and about 30 were injured.

A panel of Connecticut government agency leaders adopted a report Thursday that advises researching whether special training, licenses and work-hour restrictions should be required for workers who perform gas blow procedures.

Authorities are separately investigating whether any people or businesses should face criminal charges and what ignited the gas to cause the blast.
