An overturned tanker truck on a California freeway exploded Friday, shooting a flameball 100 feet into the air, KABC-TV in Los Angeles reported.
The driver managed to escape his truck before the explosion on the Corona 91 freeway in southern California, the Los Angeles Times reported. A collision with two vehicles caused the tanker to ram into the center divider, flip over and then burst into flames around 10:30 a.m. local time.
California Highway Police (CHP) closed the freeway in both directions as the tanker continued to burn, causing massive traffic delays.
Police reported no injuries.
Corona is about 50 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
