A jogger found a human skull while running in Holden woods near Boston on Saturday night, myFOXboston.com reported Wednesday.

The skull was removed from the area for examination, as investigators continued to search the woods for further human remains.

Worcester District Attorney (DA) Joseph D. Early, Jr., said, "We're looking for any other human remains that might be in those woods. I anticipate we will have more to say later this week."

Tim Connolly, Early's spokesman, said the search for the missing remains could take the rest of the week.

"It’s too soon to tell if foul play was involved, or if the skull belonged to a man or a woman," he said.

The state's chief medical examiner was attempting to identify the skull.

Holden Police Chief George R. Sherrill said the force had an old missing person case on file which remains unsolved but declined to discuss the matter further, telegram.com reported.

"We need to get the facts from the medical examiner's office ... We don't want to get people's hopes up, and we don't want to alarm people either," he said.
