PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. -- A Nebraska judge has found a crime scene investigator guilty of tampering with evidence in a case in which two innocent men were charged with murder and jailed for months.

Cass County District Judge Randall Rehmeier announced his verdict Tuesday in the case of Douglas County CSI director David Kofoed.

The charge stems from Kofoed's investigation of the 2006 slaying of a Murdock couple. He said he found a speck of blood from one of the victims in a car linked to the original two suspects.

Prosecutors argued Kofoed took DNA evidence and used it to fake a positive test to bolster a case against the suspects, who were later exonerated.

Kofoed has argued that accidental cross-contamination was to blame.
