U.S. Olympic figure skater, Nancy Kerrigan, was born Oct. 13, 1969, in Woburn, Mass., to Daniel and Brenda Kerrigan.
Kerrigan, who grew up in Stoneham, Mass., playing hockey with brothers Michael and Mark, won her first figure skating medal at age nine.
At age 22, Kerrigan won a bronze medal in women’s figure skating in the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France and later a silver medal in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. She won a gold medal at the 1993 U.S. Championships.
Kerrigan was at the center of a saga at the 1994 U.S. Championships in Detroit when she was hit in the right knee with a collapsible baton by Shane Stant.
An investigation into the assault later revealed that skating rival Tanya Harding's ex-husband Jeff Gillooly had masterminded the attack to keep her from competing in the US Championships.
After retiring from competitive figure skating, Kerrigan founded The Nancy Kerrigan Foundation to raise awareness for the vision impaired in honor of her mother, Brenda, who is legally blind.
The foundation distribute grants to non profit organizations that support the visually impaired.
On September 9, 1995, Kerrigan married her agent Jerry Solomon, with whom she has three children: Matthew Eric, Brian and Nicole Elizabeth.
The family currently resides in Lynnfield, Mass.
