Sofitel Montréal

1155 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Downtown, Montréal, QC, H3A 2N3

Fodor's Review:

The carpets in the lobby at this exquisite hotel were made by the same company that carpeted Versailles for King Louis XIV, yet the Sofitel remains modern and cheery, with sleek leather sofas and a stained-glass installation. At the foot of Mont Royal, in the heart of downtown, the 17-floor Sofitel's understated elegance, top-notch details, and convenient location attract an upbeat and well-heeled international crowd of Hollywood A-listers and diplomats. Spacious standard rooms are bright and tailored, with floor-to-ceiling windows, Bose docking stations, and contemporary light-wood furniture; bathrooms have a separate shower and tub, and luxury bath products by L'Occitane and Hermès. The award-winning Renoir restaurant is helmed by returning chef Olivier Perret, who just installed an urban herb garden off the terrace. Pros:  excellent location; menswear boutique in the lobby; breakfast options galore. Cons:  scarce street parking; valet is $30 plus tax; views from east-facing rooms are obstructed. 241 rooms, 17 suites. In-room: a/c, safe, Wi-Fi. In-hotel: restaurant, bar, gym, business center, some pets allowed.
