    Outrageous inaugural hotel packages

    Officials are projecting attendance of President Obama’s second inauguration will be less than half of the 1.8 million who packed onto the National Mall four years ago. Area hotels,  facing a glut of unsold rooms, are dropping their four-day minimums.  But that hasn’t stopped some properties from offering over-the-top hotel packages that only few could afford.

    Fairmont Hotel: “Presidential Detail Package” $100,000 This package is for the thrill-seeker inaugural reveler.  Your $100,000 buys you four nights in the Fairmont’s ultra-luxe Presidential Suite, and includes two “Fairmont Presidential Detail” agents– fake secret service agents who will follow you around decked out in black suits and shades to wait on your ever beck and call.  They’ll even to walk your pooch –code named the “first dog” for the duration of your stay.  Adding to your mystique, you’ll be carted around town in a new BMW 7-Series. Other details include a $5,000 SAKS Fifth Avenue shopping spree and a midnight buffet for “President’s” family and closest advisors after returning from any inaugural balls they may be attending, including champagne and caviar for up to 20 people.

For $201,300, a group can reserve a block of guest rooms, one-bedroom and luxury suites in the West Wing of the Five Diamond boutique hotel, along with 24-hour butler service and direct access to the wing that lets you bypass the lobby. Among the other goodies: a custom-designed necklace by Dina Mackney and a $20,000 shopping spree at Bloomingdale's. You can also host your very own inaugural ball at the hotel's Fahrenheit Ballroom for up to 75 guests, including cocktail reception, five-course dinner with wine pairings.

This Virginia-based boutique hotel has an inaugural package that lets visitors rent the entire place for four nights, complete with 24-hour butler service, silk monogrammed pajamas, a champagne sabering demonstration.  The $200,000 comes with some other goodies, like private transportation for the group to and from Inaugural Balls, being entertained one evening by the former White House pianist Robert Smith, who played for every administration from Nixon through Clinton, and nightly cocktail receptions featuring a different tasting each evening.
