Pilot tackles drunk passenger who attacked flight attendant

Man was arrested, is now banned from flying on commercial airlines

An American Airlines pilot is being hailed as a hero for taking down a belligerent passenger who reportedly manhandled a flight attendant.

Michael Kerr had just accepted his boyfriend's, Matthew Stacy, proposal before taking a flight from Lexington, Ky. to Charlotte, N.C. on July 21.

Kerr was served three Jack Daniels while aboard the flight that apparently went straight to his head before the airplane arrived at its final destination.

Upon landing, Kerr decided not to remain in his seat. Instead, in a scene captured on cellphone video, he pushed forward to the front of the plane, where he shoved and threatened to break the jaw of a flight attendant who tried to stop him.

Enter the pilot.

“I said take a seat, sir,” he ordered Kerr.

“Noooooooo,” Kerr said, slurring his words. “I don’t want to take a seat …”

“I don’t care what you want to do,” the pilot said. “You’re going to take a seat right now.”

Kerr then turned back to the flight attendant and said, “Uh-huh — you’re going to let me by.”

And that was when the pilot tackled him.

“Sit down. Sit down. Enough. You don’t put your hands on my flight attendant!

“Enough! You hear me?”

The pilot kept him on the floor while passengers helped restrain him with seat belt straps. And then Kerr delivered his ultimate threat:

“Whatever you do is going on Facebook! And you are complete losers. Yeah! You heard me right the first time.”

Police arrived and handcuffed Kerr, but he kept kicking, requiring other officers to be called to the scene before he was removed from the plane, The Charlotte Observer reported.

The video has since received hundreds of thousands of views across various social media platforms and many are praising the pilot's quick thinking action as heroism.

Kerr was arraigned in federal court on Monday on charges of being intoxicated and disruptive, assaulting a female, communicating threats and interfering with a flight crew or flight attendant — a mix that could get him up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000.

On Monday, Kerr was released on $25,000 bail. But he better take a honeymoon early-- before his last trip the big house.
