Ride-hailing services Uber and Lyft can now offer rides to and from the Phoenix airport.

The Arizona Republic reports (http://bit.ly/28KIa7z ) that the popular car services will begin offering pick-ups at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Saturday.

A new airport ground transportation policy approved by the Phoenix City Council in May will allow Uber and Lyft to pick up passengers. Drop-offs have always been allowed because they aren't regulated.

Uber and Lyft operate networks of independent drivers with their own vehicles and passengers request rides through mobile apps. The companies have been trying to expand service at Sky Harbor for more than a year because it is the 10th busiest airport in the country.

Tucson International Airport also adds the car services this week.
