The holiday season will be here before we know it, and if you want a good deal on airfare, planning starts sooner than you think.
Thanks to the Orbitz Holiday Insider Index, we now know that travelers can expect to get the best deals on airfare for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve during the week of Oct. 5 to Oct. 12.

When it comes to Turkey Day, the best day to book airfare is on Oct. 6, when the average price of a round-trip ticket will cost about $406. Orbitz explains that last year, many people booked their Thanksgiving Day airfare by September 20. This caused a spike in prices, so by mid-October, you can expect that airfare will be more expensive.
In the case of Christmas, the best day to book airfare is on Oct.9, when a round-trip ticket will cost about $428. If that’s too soon for you, prices are also expected to dip on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7.
And finally, if you want to ring in 2016 in an exotic locale, start planning now. The best day to book New Year’s Eve travel is Oct. 10, when the average round-trip ticket will be about $362. Orbitz says that last year, most people didn’t book NYE travel until November, so get in ahead of the crowds to snag the best deal.
