TOKYO -- Honda Motor Co. said Friday that it was set to voluntarily recall about 1.5 million vehicles in the US to update their automatic transmission control software.
The transmission secondary shaft in the affected vehicles can be damaged if the transmission is quickly shifted between each of the reverse, neutral and drive positions, as may be done in an attempt to dislodge a vehicle stuck in the mud or snow, Honda said in a statement.
Some of its 2005-10 four-cylinder Accord models, 2007-10 CR-V and 2005-08 Element vehicles were included in the recall, it added.
