Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc said it was accelerating plans to expand its Sheraton brand internationally, especially in China.

The company, which also owns such brands as W and Le Meridien, said it will add more than 50 Sheratons by the end of 2013, 15 more than it said in December.

Starwood said it would open 16 Sheratons in China this year, bringing the total there to 53.

It plans to open its first in Bangalore this year, it said. There are already 10 Sheratons in India.

In China, the company also sees the development about 20 Four Points hotels, Sheraton's more affordable offshoot.

Sheraton represents 30 percent of the company's total development pipeline, the company said in a statement. Starwood shares were up 43 cents to $57.44 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
