Off the Record

Greta: Remembering Fred Thompson

By Greta Van Susteren

Let's all go "Off the Record" for a minute. Yes, it's inevitable, but nonetheless it's always sad when someone you know dies, and we all knew Senator Fred Thompson.

I'm old enough to remember his days as a lawyer to the Senate Watergate Committee. And some of you may remember his first movie, Marie, in which he plays himself, a lawyer for a whistle-blower named Marie. But there were other movies and TV shows, and then he became a U.S. Senator and then a candidate for president.

But I remember him most for sitting next to me on the set of "On the Record."

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

VAN SUSTEREN: In 2008, Senator Thompson ran for President himself and he joins us, nice to see you, sir.

FRED THOMPSON Good to see you, again.

VAN SUSTEREN: I take it you don't miss running?

THOMPSON: No.

VAN SUSTEREN: Not at all.

THOMPSON: I don't. I don't. I have been there, done that.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Well, he didn't miss running, but today we all miss him. He was a unique man with a varied and successful career. He always brought his A-game to everything he did, including "On the Record." So I will miss Fred.

That's my "Off the Record" comment tonight.
