KATE STEINLE LAWSUIT

Sabrina Schaeffer: It is a reminder that Federal trumps state law. What’s really interesting is that a survey out of UC Berkeley shows that there is widespread opposition to these sanctuary cities that crosses political and ethnic lines. Her family may be doing something good here.

Mark Tage: This is a tragic situation, but this is another example of criminalizing immigration. This is a civil matter and we should tighten some of the holes in immigration, but we should not fall into the trap that all immigrants are criminals.

Rich Karlgaard: We are either a sovereign nation or we are not. Sanctuary cities flout the idea of a sovereign nation. I for one would love a sanctuary city where I wouldn’t have to pay federal income tax, but you cannot do that.

John Tamny: I think it is a bad idea, what happened was a tragedy but let’s not federalize it in a way that will not make us safe. It was a criminal act and had nothing to do with immigration. It’s a distraction.

Steve Forbes: This does get down to policing. You have a lousy law enforcement attitude; you will get this kind of tradgedy. Keep people in jail who should be in jail and also I think this will be a spur to get real immigration reform with the next president.

Carrie Sheffield: There should be a basic level of Human rights, that we in this country as taxpayers, we deserve protection. We are talking about criminals, it is the basic form of government to provide protection for its citizens.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND CAMPAIGN FINANCE LAWS

Steve Forbes: Campaign finance always should not  exist whether you have social media or not. Social media is replacing PR releases and Donald recognized that before the others. You will still have to use traditional sources if you want to wage a long campaign. As for laws David, they have about the same effect as kellenex stopping the Mississippi river. Get rid of them.

Mark Tatge: Social media is paid for by big corporations and special interests.

John Tamny: We shouldn’t have laws on campaign finance, it violates our freedom of speech and it doesn’t keep money from reaching politics.

Rich Kaarlgaard: Steve is right, it is unstoppable, but I am for transparency. Let us know who gives who money.

Carrie Shefflied: In the grand scheme of things people spend more on chewing gum than on our national system. Let’s also talk about of Bernie Sanders benefits by social media and has allowed him to compete with Hillary.

Sabrina Schaeffer: We have no real evidence on how social media impact the vote.

SHOULD THE NFL FIRE GOODELL?

Mark Tatge: He needs to be fired. The NFL has been focusING on the wrong issues. We have issues with domestic violence and a serious problem with head injuries. Instead we are worried about if there was enough air in the balls.

Carrie Sheffield: I don’t think he needs to be fired for this, they are a private club and they should be able to set their own precedence.

John Tamny: Roger Goodell needlessly embarrassed the league but he works for the owners and if they want to keep them then they should.

Steve Forbes: If it was a smear campaign he should be fired, but that has not been proven yet.  Let the owners decide it; I don’t want the federal courts in sports any more than they have to be. They will just gum it up and there won’t be sports anymore.

Sabrina Schaeffer: I can’t imagine the time we have spent talking about this with much more serious concerns going on with the NFL. Most notably the violence against women.

Rich Karlgaard: He was the protégé of Robert Kraft and now they hate each other, I don’t know how much longer he will last.
