Grapevine: Pelosi contests the term 'ObamaCare'

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

"Excessive Military Leave"

The U.S. Postal Service has been ordered to reinstate a Purple Heart recipient who it fired for taking -– quote -- "excessive military leave."

The federal board also ordered the service to pay him $2 million in back pay.

Sergeant Major Richard Erickson, joined the Postal Service in 1988 after his full-time military duty, but he still wanted to serve his country -- so he joined the National Guard in 1990. He was fired in 2000.

The Postal Service contends Erickson abandoned his job and did not ask for it back in time.

This case has wound its way through the courts for years and the Postal Service can still appeal.

Words that Work

On Thursday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi corrected a reporter who asked a question about ObamaCare.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

REP. NANCY PELOSI, R – CA, HOUSE MINORITY LEADER: First of all, it's called the Affordable Care Act. That's what you're referencing. They are going after the Affordable Care Act.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

But President Obama, Majority Leader Harry Reid, and other Democrats -- including Pelosi herself -- used to have no problem with that term.

The Washington Free Beacon notes that leading Democrats abruptly stopped calling the law ObamaCare this fall when the healthcare.gov website failed to work.

President Obama has referred to his signature law as ObamaCare since. We'll note that.

Pain at the Pump

Finally, some environmentalists in San Francisco want warning labels on gasoline pumps reminding drivers of their alleged contribution to global warming.

The labels would be similar to the surgeon general's warning on a pack of cigarettes.

Since it's in the proposal stage, the exact wording is not set, and in mock-ups climate change and global warming are used interchangeably.

A characteristic example -- quote -- "Warning! Gas Use Creates Climate Disruption."

There is no timeline on when the labels could appear.

They are likely to face legal challenges from the oil industry.
