And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...
Not in Good Hands
People aren't only upset at lawmakers concerning Hurricane Sandy. The New York Post reports a Staten Island couple feels they are not in good hands with Allstate.
They say the insurance company is offering them just $10,000 for their storm ravaged home.
To make matters worse, Allstate has been using pictures of their house and destroyed furniture in TV ads touting its sensitive customer service.
An Allstate spokesman told another newspaper that ads for the insurance giant -- quote -- "...are produced in accordance with all applicable advertising laws."
After Going After Guns
The battle for legislating gun control hasn't even started in earnest but liberal activist and talk show host Reverend Al Sharpton appears to have moved on to other weapons.
A radio caller asked Sharpton during his call-in program -- quote -- "What happens when the criminal goes to knives, Al?"
Sharpton replied -- quote -- "Then you deal with knives...The same thing as if you have a head cold and the same thing you do if you have a head cold and the cold is gone and you have a headache. Then you take headache medicine. The job of society is to deal with whatever problem confronts it."
Sharpton's statement raised some eyebrows as you can imagine.
One Mediaite columnist wrote -- quote -- "What is particularly specious about this argument is the assumption that simply 'dealing with' weapons via legislation is going to end violent crime associated with that item."
Big Moment
A proud moment turned into a bit of an awkward one -- for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Her office circulated a photo of female lawmakers to commemorate a big moment for House Democrats -- the first time the caucus did not have a majority of white men.
On the left is the Associated Press' version, and on the right is the picture that Pelosi's office sent out.
As you can see, four members who didn't make it into the actual photo were photoshopped in up at the top.
Here's a zoom-in on the four photoshopped women. Leader Pelosi stood by her photo when asked about it today.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
NANCY PELOSI, D – CA, HOUSE MINORITY LEADER: It was an accurate historical record of who the Democratic women of Congress are. It also is an accurate record that it was freezing cold and our members had been waiting a long time for everyone to arrive.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Some just showed up late. Only two New Hampshire papers used the doctored photo.
