NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: In the meantime, when Isaac moved in, it forced The Donald out.
He was supposed to be here in Tampa today, but the storm changing his plans. What were the plans?
Donald Trump still has a big surprise planned for the Republican National Convention. He joins me on the phone right now.
Donald, what was the surprise? Is it still on tap?
DONALD TRUMP, CHAIRMAN & CEO, TRUMP HOTELS & CASINO RESORTS: Well, we had a great surprise and they want me to get there if I can.
But as you know, I was supposed to be there on Monday. And a little thing called a hurricane changed my plans and a lot other people's plans. So, I was in Sarasota last night, and we had a great evening in Sarasota and I left for New York.
So I'm in New York now, Neil. I was going to do your show with you for a change, and I looked forward to that, but unfortunately you are there and I am in New York.
CAVUTO: Well, what happened? Are you still on for this surprise? What was it?
(CROSSTALK)
TRUMP: They want to do it, but we will have to see and have to work it out scheduling wise. And we will know probably over the next 24 hours.
CAVUTO: Twenty-four-- I mean it's going to kick off. It was supposed to be the kickoff. Tomorrow is the kickoff. If you don't do it tomorrow -- you're a great marketer, Donald -- you have lost your opportunity, right?
TRUMP: Well, I have to get there. And getting there is not as easy for me as it is for other people, I guess, but it's something we are trying to work on.
CAVUTO: What do you mean it's not easy? You have a SWAT team of private jets at your disposal. This isn't like you waiting for JetBlue.
(CROSSTALK)
TRUMP: I also have a SWAT team of meetings and deals and things that I'm doing. So, I do have other things.
(CROSSTALK)
CAVUTO: I will eliminate some things.
TRUMP: Go ahead.
CAVUTO: Are you going to do one of these things where you go on camera and go, Barack Obama, you are fired?
TRUMP: Well, I don't want to say, Neil.
It is just something that is really exciting and a lot of people are excited about it. And I know as you know as they announced today they really want to do it, so we are seeing if we can.
CAVUTO: It wasn't to promote "The Apprentice" or anything like that?
TRUMP: No, it has nothing to do with "The Apprentice," no.
CAVUTO: Some folks here are concerned is Trump going to try to upstage Mitt Romney, embarrass Mitt Romney?
What do you say to that?
TRUMP: No, that is ridiculous. That is not even a fair question. I have been a big supporter of Mitt's for a long time. And a question like that really isn't really -- it is that coming from you, Neil? I am very surprised would you ask a question like that.
CAVUTO: I'm just -- I am raising what is out there, Donald.
(CROSSTALK)
TRUMP: Let the enemies say that.
Look, I have been a big fan of Mitt. And I have really helped Mitt a lot. And I think he is a great guy. And I think he is going to run a fantastic campaign, and I think he is going to be a great president.
CAVUTO: Do you as someone who is a pretty accomplished businessman, look at what has been happening in the markets -- not all the economic numbers, but the markets? And that's one of the things that we are told Democrats next week will be pounding that. Say what you will of us and how we are anti-fat cat, and anti-business. Look at the Dow, it has doubled under our stewardship. Things are coming back, the market is coming back, look at Apple stock soaring. They're not taking credit for each and every one of those, but that the trend is their financial friend. What does Donald Trump think of that, that argument?
TRUMP: Let's take a look at Apple. Where does Apple make their product? They make their product in China.
Wouldn't it nice if they had factories in this country and employed people in this country? They are making their product in big factories all over China. You tell me about that. Is that great for us? I'm not so sure.
The stock market is up and nobody knows why it's up. No one has any idea and that is usually a very dangerous scenario when the stock market goes up and people do not know why it is up, because there really is no reason. You have unemployment that is probably not 8.3 percent, but probably anywhere from 16 percent to 21 percent, the real number.
(CROSSTALK)
TRUMP: When the stock market goes up, it's all fiction.
CAVUTO: Right, but Dick Grasso, the former NYSE chairman, was telling me this weekend when we were live, Donald, that he thinks it's anticipation of a Romney victory. What do you think of that?
TRUMP: Well, I think there could be possibilities to that. I think it is a good point. I think if you have that victory, a lot of good things will happen with the economy.
CAVUTO: All right, Donald Trump, it's always a pleasure.
I look forward to this announcement, whatever it is, but, man, chomping at the bit here.
TRUMP: OK. Thank you very much.
CAVUTO: Donald Trump, thank you very much.
