Grapevine: DNC reportedly switching banks

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

Bank On It

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is making a big withdrawal from Bank of America.

A party official tells the Wall Street Journal the DNC intends to move all of its business to Amalgamated Bank the only labor-owned bank in the country.

The move will not be completed until after the election but will be announced in the next few days.

Huffington Post points out that that could make things a bit awkward with the president's re-election campaign since it uses Bank of America as it did during the 2008 campaign.

And of course, President Obama will accept the Democratic nomination next month at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina where the bank is headquartered.

One for the Record Books

Two million of your taxpayer dollars were spent on an internship program at the Agriculture Department that resulted in the hiring of one full-time intern.

One.

A new inspector general report focuses on the agency's $63,000,000 effort to improve information technology security.

The audit finds the systems are still at risk because the projects were poorly managed.

The IG also says $3 million were spent on hardware that was never used and almost a $250,000 went to a project that was later canceled.

The Proposal

Billionaire investor George Soros is getting married again.

The 82-year-old announced his engagement to his 40-year-old girlfriend Tamiko Bolton.

This will be his third marriage, her second.

Last year, you may remember, his former girlfriend Brazilian soap opera star Adriana Ferryr filed a lawsuit alleging Soros reneged on a promise to buy her an apartment.

Soros has tried to get the lawsuit dismissed.

Upon hearing news of the engagement, her lawyer said -- quote -- "I wish him the best of luck...and now that he doesn't need the apartment, hopefully the case can be resolved."

Soros is a big Democratic donor and champion of liberal causes.
