Grapevine: US Olympic uniforms not 'made in America'?

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

International Feel

With all the talk about the evils of outsourcing on the campaign trail it may surprise you to learn that team U.S.A.'s Olympic uniforms are actually not made in America.

That's right, the beret, blazer, shirt, pants, tie, belt, shoes and scarf designed by Ralph Lauren and approved by the U.S. Olympic Committee all say imported or made in Italy.

And reports say a lot of the work on the garments was done in China.

Today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was seeing red.

SEN. HARRY REID, D – NV: The Olympic Committee should be ashamed of themselves. I think they should be embarrassed. I think they should take all the uniforms put them in a big pile and burn them and start all over again. All if they have to wear nothing but a singlet that says USA on it painted by hand that's what they should wear it.

The Olympic Committee is responding by calling Ralph Lauren an iconic American company.

On the Job Hunt

The Huffington Post is hammering President Obama on outsourcing. It notes the campaign's attacks labeling Governor Romney as an outsourcer -- quote -- "If Romney really wanted a juicy example of outsourcing, he would have to look no further than the president's jobs council."

General Electric, Boeing, Xerox and American Express are represented on that council and all rely on outsourcing.

The White House notes a seat on the panel does not mean the administration supports all of the companies' activities.

Wait For It...

Finally, Canadians who rely on their government's socialized health care are playing a serious waiting game.

The nonpartisan Fraser Institute reports an average wait time of 19 weeks between a referral from a general practitioner and elective treatment. 19 weeks wait time.

More than 46,000 Canadians sought health care outside of Canada last year after wait times increased 104 percent.
