And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...
Bottom Line
Despite the sluggish job market salaries are up at the White House. Last Friday the administration released its annual report on staff salaries.
This year the payroll stands at $37.8 million and covers 468 employees.
That is up slightly from last year and higher than President George W. Bush's last year in office.
In 2008, staff salaries totaled a little over $33 million and included 447 employees.
And if you are in the market for a new career, you might want to think about calligraphy.
Some schools may be abandoning cursive writing in class but the White House's chief calligrapher makes almost $97,000 a year.
Now that's something to write home about.
Roman Holiday
The former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official who was caught on tape comparing the agency's enforcement philosophy for oil and gas industries to ancient Rome has found himself a new gig.
Al Armendariz resigned in April after his "crucify them" comments became public.
He will now work as part of the Sierra Club's "beyond coal" campaign.
Oklahoma Republican Senator James Inhofe whose office first publicized the "crucify" comments sent out a tongue-in-cheek congratulation -- quote -- "At least at the Sierra Club he won't get into so much trouble for telling the truth that their true agenda is to kill oil, gas and coal."
What's Your Emergency?
And finally, yet another citizen who thinks 911 is a customer service hotline.
We told you last month a Connecticut man called emergency dispatchers complaining that his sandwich order was made incorrectly.
Well, now topping that, an Ohio man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly made ten calls to 911 to complain about service at a local Skyline Chili restaurant.
Police say Christian Luckett was drunk at the time. Really?
